Cao Chong Weighs the Elephant

In the ancient kingdom of China, during the Three Kingdoms period, lived a young prince named Cao Chong. He was renowned not only for his royal blood but also for his remarkable intelligence and wit. One day, a remarkable event occurred in the royal court that highlighted Cao Chong's brilliant mind - the weighing of an elephant.

The story begins with the arrival of a colossal elephant as a gift to the king. The royal court was abuzz with curiosity and amazement as they beheld this giant beast. However, a question arose: how could one accurately determine the weight of such a massive creature? Cao Cao, the king, was very glad to have received the elephant as a present but had no scale big enough to weigh it.

One day, Cao Chong said to his father, "I've found a way to weigh the elephant." Cao Chong asked a man to lead the elephant onto a boat. When the boat stopped sinking, the man drew a line along the boat side. After the elephant was led away, Cao Chong had some men put stones into the boat until the water reached the line. Cao Chong asked the men to weigh each stone from the boat and put down the number. "Add up all the stones," he said, "and that will be the weight of the elephant."

Cao Chong's ingenious method allowed him to accurately weigh the elephant without any large scales. His father was amazed by his son's intelligence and proud of his solution to this problem. This story has become a classic example of creative problem-solving and is often used to teach children about intelligence and resourcefulness.
